Part of this AU but it's a bit a silly and reads fine as a standalone.

The sun was unusually hot for the early spring days, and Jaskier had been unbearably lazy as a result. The ginger cat was slunked around Geralt’s shoulders, purring as he nuzzled against Geralt’s neck, letting his tail flick out whenever the flies got too close. Geralt couldn’t help but reach up and scratch Jaskier behind his ears, enjoying the feeling of the soft thick fur beneath his fingers. The gentle rumble of purring in his ear was calming and combined with the heat of the day, Geralt was feeling lethargic and desperately in need of a nap, but they were still stuck out on the middle of the path with very little shade in the vicinity. They would need to find some trees and preferably a river before stopping.
Jaskier, the lazy git, yawned right in Geralt’s ear, letting out a small happy chirp as his claws stretched out and scratched at the air.
“It’s your turn to carry me,” Geralt grumbled as he let his fingers run through the velvety fur on Jaskier’s ears, “or at least carry yourself.”
The cat hissed and bit him on the jaw, his long ginger tail flicking into Geralt’s eyes.
“Bastard.”
Another hiss, followed by a bump of Jaskier’s head against Geralt’s cheek. Despite Jaskier’s protests, Geralt could feel the glowing warmth of love in his chest through the soulbond, and he smiled to himself, briefly forgetting his own discomfort for a few precious seconds.
“I love you too,” he hummed, and then carried off down the path in search of shade and water, anything that could cool them down.
Jaskier continued purring in his ear, happily doing fuck all whilst Geralt led them off the path. If he focussed his senses hard enough, he could hear the trickle of water nearby; a river. With any luck the water would be clear of diseases and drowners, allowing them to bathe and cool off before they set off again on their search for the elusive Yennefer.
“We’ll make camp soon,” Geralt mumbled to the cat on his shoulders.
With another yawn, Jaskier just flicked his tail against Geralt’s cheek.
He was truly insufferable, and yet Geralt was so very in love with him. Still, when the river drew near, an idea sparked in Geralt’s head and he grinned as he hummed one of Jaskier’s lesser known songs under his breath. The river was murky but there was no sign of drowners or other nefarious creatures that would make the algae-filled stream their home. Geralt focussed his senses to be sure, and his gloved hand reached up to feel his still medallion.
Then without warning, he dumped his boyfriend into the river.
Jaskier yowled as he flew through the air, clawing at the air, but the shock seemed to stifle his ability to shift, or perhaps the idiot just forgot that was even possible. He landed in the water with a loud splash and scrambled to the shore, his long fur dripping with river water and tinged green. Jaskier hissed loudly as he shook the excess water from his fur, glaring up at Geralt with icy cornflower blue eye, and, with a thrum of magical energy that made Geralt’s medallion jump on his chest, shifted back into a very soggy and naked human.
Long brown strands of hair stuck to his cheeks, and Geralt’s eyes flicked down to the pale scar on Jaskier’s neck that had changed both their lives in a heartbeat. The bard pointed at Geralt, gaping as he tried to find the words.
“You- you…”
Geralt laughed and pulled his soggy boyfriend into a hug, plucking a piece of algae from his hair. “Me?”
“Bastard!”
“Hmm,” Geralt agreed as he kissed Jaskier’s nose. “Your bastard.”
Jaskier scoffed, rolling his eyes as he buried his face in Geralt’s neck. “Yeah, mine.”
